Rules for Teachers

Giving an apple to the teacher or a little bunch of flowers may not be allowed under a new code of ethics proposed for the profession. The New Zealand Teachers Council is drafting a code of ethics to police the behaviour of teachers -----a requirement of the Education Act 2003, which is under process.
Included in a draft of rules in the new code of ethics, teachers will not:
· Be able to accept any gift or favour that might influence or seem to influence professional decisions or actions.
· Deceive parents or families over the abilities of their child or children.
· Punish a student unnecessarily, harshly or unfairly.
